Read an article on Wired Magazine http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/08/ff_webrip/. This is my point of view on how our use of the internet has evolved:
Almost after a year of general public release, Google announced that it is stopping all development on Googlewave Announcement on 4th August
Attended Burton (now acquired by Gartner) Catalyst 2010 in San Diego, an excellent forum to get upto speed on what is happening in technology world in terms of standards and trends.
Paradigm shifts:
* Pushing core to the outside
* How SAAS, HIAS, PAAS, have provided capabilities to the industry in terms of scalability. Users pay only what they need. * Stop wasting platform resources by leveraging virtualization
* Chaning views on how Identities should be managed
* Writing applications that are cloud aware and are able to co-exist on a platform
Google recently released Googlewave.
I tried and it looks more like mix of email, blog, and IM.
The other catch is that it required the other users also have a google account to start using this capability. One more attempt by Google to gain more user base.
As for how secure the information is while hosted at Google, it probably gets stored for unlimited period of time and eventually becomes Google property.
Will post more after playing with it amongst my friends and see if it really makes sense or is just another nice to have shiny toy with a very short lifespan.
